If you are a fan of Director Robert Rodriguez, then you are aware of his band “Chingon” that features lead singer, Alex Ruiz, and his incredible performance of “Malaguena Salerosa” on the Kill Bill II, DVD special features (movie release party Quentin Tarantino in attendance). “Chingon” was recently showcased at the SxSW 2013 Midnight show on the Doritos Bold Stage screening clips of movies and many of the songs from the various soundtracks from Trouble Maker Studios and can be seen at select special performances. Alex makes for an incredible front man and is known for his raspy mid-range voice, that brings heart-felt soul and sound to his performances. His charismatic stage presence is not all show. Alex is the real deal.

When not performing with Robert, he is working to bring back a familiar style of rock and roll with his band “The Night Mothers”, who are currently booking tours. The CD “Sunrise” was recently produced by Gary Katz, best known for his work with Steely Dan. The 11-song compilation has hints of the Eagles, Pink Floyd, Bad Company, Allman Brothers, and Santana, with a vocal blend of Bob Seger, Randy Newman, Joe Crocker, Eddie Vedder of “Pearl Jam”, and the front man look of Ian Astbury of “The Cult” – Latino style.

The music CD has a Southwest desert feel, with a slow ride through the hill country and along the Rio Grande and/or Colorado mountains. “We wanted to bring back some of the Americana Rock that seems to be missing today,” says Alex. Alex is always thinking of ways to give back to the community and can be found coordinating fundraising events with brand juggernaut John Paul DeJoria (brand creator of Paul Mitchell products and Patron Tequila) and Gary Spellman for “Peace Love and Happiness” (www.PeaceLoveHappiness.com) motorcycle runs which benefits fallen law officers families in Austin, and other alliances with in the entertainment sector. Mr. Ruiz is also developing a high-end exotic Cayman alligator skin boot line (Zeus Exotic Imports), currently handcrafted by special order ($2,000 to $3,000 range).
